A shelter-in-place advisory was in place for more than 90,000 people in Rockdale County following a fire at a chemical plant.

The fire happened Sunday at the BioLab plant in Conyers, Georgia. No injuries have been reported, but there are concerns about the air quality. Rockdale County has now lifted the shelter-in-place advisory as of Monday 7:45 p.m.

On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” WABE’s environmental reporter Marisa Mecke reports on the latest. She also discusses what she’s learned about the fire and the questions she has for officials with Georgia Emergency Management and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Show host Rose Scott then checks in with Dan Whisenhunt, the founder and editor of Decaturish.com. He discusses DeKalb County officials’ response to the chemical plant fire and he also shares the concerns Decatur residents have about the air quality in DeKalb County.

The City of Atlanta is also actively monitoring air quality levels and says no immediate life safety issues have been identified.
