City Appeals Reinstatement Order of Fired APD Officer
An Atlanta police officer fired for his part in a botched raid of a Midtown gay bar could get his job back.
APD fired Sgt. Willie Adams for lying about what happened in September of 2008, when officers stormed the Atlanta Eagle and detained patrons who weren’t suspected of any crime.
The city’s Civil Service Board upheld that dismissal. But Adams appealed the decision to Fulton Superior Court.
“The judge actually read the entire transcript of the hearing and agreed with us that there simply wasn’t sufficient evidence to show that Sgt. Adams had lied,” says Mary Hubert, Adams’ attorney.
Adams isn’t back on the force yet.
The City of Atlanta Law Department is appealing the ruling, and depending on the outcome of that court’s decision, he might not get his job back.
Adams currently works for the Clayton Co. Sheriff’s Dept.
