The Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board reviews civil rights cold cases from Jan. 1, 1940, through Dec. 31, 1979. These cases are defined as racially motivated crimes and civil rights violations that were unresolved but in some cases were investigated and recorded by authorities.

The board, whose members were appointed by President Joe Biden, recently released the cases of Leroy Bradwell, Hattie DeBardelaben, and Rev. Samuel Earl Sawyer, Sr.

On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Hank Klibanoff, a longtime journalist, the host of WABE’s “Buried Truths” podcast and the co-chair of the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board, and Gabrielle Dudley, a member of the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board, talked with show host Rose Scott about the three newly released cases and the history and mission of their board.
