Clayton County’s Board of Commissioners voted Monday to sanction District Three Commissioner Felicia Franklin after a drunken encounter at a sports bar.

Franklin alleged she was drugged with a “date rape pill” at a sports bar in Morrow, Georgia, and posted the account on Facebook at the beginning of October. However, police reports of the incident did not support Franklin’s claim.

Police footage of the incident later showed Franklin falling down outside the bar and becoming aggressive with medical staff when they arrived on the scene. It was then confirmed that Franklin was under the influence of alcohol.

The Board called a special meeting where they voted unanimously to remove Franklin as vice chair. Additionally, the Board included other penalties like suspending board appointments and zoning requests in Franklin’s district.

Demont Davis is the Commissioner of District Four. He addressed the public near the end of Monday’s meeting.

“This is a sad day here in Clayton County. The breach of public trust is always the worst thing we can do to a citizen, but the Board of Commission’s obligation is to address the behavior of its board members,” Davis said. “If we do not address things, then we become a willing participant in the escalation of commitment to failure.”

Despite the sanctions, Franklin went to social media to thank the Board for their decision. She noted that the move would allow her to focus on being elected chairperson next month.
