College Football Hall of Fame Project Moves Forward

The long-delayed College Football Hall of Fame project that’s scheduled to be built near the Georgia World Congress Center is moving forward. John Stephenson is the interim CEO of Atlanta Hall Management, the non-profit organization that’s spearheading the project.

“We’re at the point where we know we have sufficient equity sponsorship commitments to use in conjunction with a construction loan to where even if we didn’t raise one more dollar past today we would be able to finish the building.”

Stephenson says construction on the project is expected to begin late this year or early next year. Originally the project was scheduled to open this year, but now it’s expected to open in 2014.

Stephenson says the delays were a result of fundraising challenges in a difficult economy and careful analysis to ensure the project has a proper business model. The College Football Hall of Fame is scheduled to move to Atlanta from its current home in South Bend, Indiana as a result of poor attendance.
