Georgia’s Department of Human Services (DHS) provides a range of services to individuals and families across the Peach State.

The agency oversees the state’s foster care system, investigates child and elder abuse and determines who qualifies for assistance programs like SNAP and Medicaid.

Candice Broce, who was recently appointed the commissioner for DHS, and the director of the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS), was a guest on “Closer Look.”

During the conversation, Broce talked with program host Rose Scott about several topics, including her agency’s ongoing response amid the COVID-19 pandemic, her top priorities for 2022 in regards to social and financial services and why she’s passionate about serving others.

“On a deeply personal level, this work means the world to me and I’m still open to the criticism, though, I think that’s an important function of this job,” said Broce.  “I want to make sure we are doing everything we can to best serve Georgia families.”
