Concourse D Expansion Complete; Concessions Still to Open
Those traveling through Concourse D at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport will now have a little more room to move around. That’s after the completion of a more than $47 million dollar expansion project.
The three-level addition at the center of the concourse adds approximately 91,000 square feet of space. It includes two new escalators and three elevators. Airport General Manager Louis Miller says the expansion will help alleviate concourse overcrowding.
“People coming from downstairs up to the concourse and going back down the other way, it’s been kind of a problem for us over the time, there has been lines of people waiting, so this will fix that in its entirety.”
The expansion also quadruples the amount of concession space. Miller says a number of the new concessions are scheduled to open on the concourse in September.
“It really helps the economic impact of the airport as well, because when we open these new things we will be adding 200-300 jobs coming to our community.”
The new concessions will include the first airport Buffalo Wild Wings and a Food Network Kitchen. And later this year the first airport 40/40 club is expected to open on the concourse. The club is part of a chain of sports bars and lounges owned by hip hop mogul Jay-Z and several business partners.
