In the last few days, the new leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, has made some heated threats against South Korea and the United States, warning that his nation might launch nuclear attacks. But North Korea put actions behind the words, with a nuclear test and the launch of a long-range ballistic missile.
Former Georgia U.S. Senator Sam Nunn, who chaired the Armed Services Committee when he was in the Senate, is now the CEO of the Nuclear Threat Initiative. Nunn and other prominent former U.S. officials recently published an op-ed article in the Wall Street Journal, warning that the world needs concerted action to stop the spread of nuclear weapons–not just in North Korea, but around the globe. In a conversation with WABE’s Denis O’Hayer, Nunn talked about the risks we face now, and the areas where progress has been made in recent years.
