In December, 2013, State Sen. Don Balfour (R-Snellville) was found not guilty on all counts in a felony indictment which accused him of theft, by filing false state expense reports.

Balfour’s defense argued he made mistakes in his expense claims, but did nothing intentional.

After his indictment, Balfour, once one of the most powerful members of the Senate, was suspended from office and kicked out of the Senate Republican caucus.  But he was restored to both upon his acquittal, and he will be in his seat when the Legislature convenes on January 13, 2014.
