Conyers Waffle House employees join strike, demanding an end to ‘meal credit’ policy
This week, a group of Conyers Waffle House employees joined a strike led by the Union of Southern Service Workers.
The workers are calling for the Department of Labor to investigate the company’s “meal credit” policy, which takes $3 from each worker’s shift – even if they don’t eat a meal. The union estimates the deductions cost workers nearly $30 million each year.
On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Katie Giede, an employee at a Conyers Waffle House, talks with show host Rose Scott about the strike and the other changes employees are calling for, including “clean and secure workplaces,” higher wages and fair scheduling.
