Box office-topping “Crazy Rich Asians” author Kevin Kwan is coming to Atlanta.

The romantic comedy author will be speaking at Margaret Mitchell House as a part of Atlanta History Center’s author programs series on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

After Kwan’s novel was released in 2013, it became a global bestseller. Opening weekend for the book turned Hollywood blockbuster generated $35 million in movie ticket sales, making it No. 1 at the box office, according to Forbes.

“We thought we would really produce this outside of the studio system, and it would be an independent film,” Kwan told NPR. “… It’s taken on a whole other life that I never dreamed was possible.”

The movie is being celebrated for showcasing diversity by having the first all-Asian cast with an Asian lead in Hollywood in 25 years, according to Time.

“If we are part of that icebreaker that breaks through the iceberg in front of us and allows so many other stories to come through and so much more talent to be showcased, I would feel extraordinarily privileged to be part of that,” Kwan told The Washington Post.

Tickets to see Kwan are $25 for the general public and $20 for Atlanta History Center members. Each ticket includes a paperback edition of the novel.
