Crowds Line Peachtree St. for Annual Pride Parade
Thousands of people came to town this weekend for the 42nd annual Atlanta Pride Festival. And no Atlanta Pride Festival would be complete without its grand parade. Aleck Ragsdale has this look.
Crowds were in high spirits as they lined Peachtree St. for this annual spectacle. From the political rights groups, to the folks wearing next to nothing, everyone was having a good time. 51 year old Mitchell Anderson says that he’s been to Pride more years than he can count. He feels that the parade has transitioned into something that is much more of a light-hearted celebration than it used to be.
“Back when I came out in the mid 80s, it was a lot more political. Certainly back then it was a lot more serious life and death issues. We have evolved and we’re much more out and visible, and I think that’s a very encouraging sign.”
Local politicians, night club acts, and gay rights advocates marched along side corporations such as Delta and Coca-Cola, all in the spirit of unity
