Cumberland CID Studying Diverging Diamond

The Cumberland Community Improvement District is paying for a study and concept design to place a diverging diamond interchange at the intersection of I-75 and Windy Hill Road.

Tad Leithead chairs the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Cumberland CID.  “This study will determine whether the amount of cars that you can move through that area at a given time will improve,” says Leithead. “We believe that it will. But secondly, that’s also a dangerous intersection, and we’ll be taking steps with this design to improve the function of the interchange in order to make it safer as well.”

The Cumberland CID is paying $158,000 for the design. If the study indicates the diverging diamond will be effective, it would cost $19-20 million with funding coming from the CID, Cobb County, the Georgia Department of Transportation and other sources.
