Dare Dream Dance Prepares Students For Film Industry
Atlanta’s film industry has created jobs well beyond what happens in front of the camera. Think caterers, lawyers or location scouts. It’s also brought a lot more opportunities for dancers.
“Everything that you see on film, all these TV shows, there is a choreographer involved. Movement is not just happenstance … and most of those movements are executed by dancers,” said longtime Atlanta dancer Rae Ransom Coleman.
Ransom Coleman and dancer and dance instructor Cici Kelley have joined forces on a dance company, Dare Dream Dance, that is specifically designed for students to get jobs in commercial dance, which includes the film industry.
Instead of exclusively working on the craft, Dare Dream Dance offers classes on the business side of dance, like branding and audition etiquette. It also partners with talent agencies to get its students work.
“They get to actually participate in real work, and they get really nice payments from those commercials,” said Kelley.
Dare Dream Dance has finally found a permanent home, and the company is celebrating the space with a day of free classes and performances Saturday. The new home is at 1995 C Metropolitan Pkwy.
