Deb Perelman never trained as a chef or worked in a restaurant, but she has nevertheless managed to establish her own voice in the world of cooking.

Her blog, “Smitten Kitchen,” has branched off into a digital series for Food Network and a New York Times bestselling cookbook. She is on tour behind her second book, “Smitten Kitchen Every Day.”

She writes in the introduction that writing “… Every Day” is how she “got her groove back” after having her second child.

“As somebody who loves to cook and has made a living doing it, it was surprising to me to find cooking draining,” she tells “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes, “because I had to do it so often, and not just when I felt like it.”

“I started to understand for the first time what I’ve always heard from other people about how cooking can be a drag sometimes, and it really bummed me out!” she says. “I really was looking for ways to keep what I loved about cooking while being able to do it as often as I needed to and on a reasonable time frame.”

The book is filled with recipes for every meal from breakfast to dessert, including what she calls “the last party cake recipes you’d ever need.”

Perelman appears at Manuel’s Tavern at 8 p.m. Wednesday to share her recipes and sign copies of “Smitten Kitchen Every Day.” The event is free and open to the public.
