Decatur Considers Residential Development and Tree Cutting Moratorium
The City of Decatur is considering placing a three-month moratorium on residential site development and tree removal.
City Manager Peggy Merriss says some of the city’s advisory boards some and residents have expressed concerns with the pace and extent of development in Decatur. “What a temporary moratorium could provide is a time when we could actually assess what the current condition is without the current condition being constantly changing,” said Merriss.
The city is currently overhauling its land development ordinances, and the first phase of that planning is scheduled to wrap up in mid-January.
City commissioners will consider the proposed moratorium at their October 21st meeting.
