Economic and business experts analyze record-setting holiday shopping amid growing economic concerns

There’s a shorter window of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. However, according to the National Retail Federation, there could be some record-setting holiday shopping. Consumers are expected to spend at least $902 per person on food, decorations, gifts and other seasonal items.

This major spending season follows the 2024 presidential election, where 81% of voters called the economy a very important issue, according to the Pew Research Center,

On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” which marked Cyber Monday, one of the year’s biggest shopping days, host Rose Scott spoke with University of South Florida economic and business experts Michael Snipes and Carol Osborne.

The experts discussed holiday shopping trends, consumer behavior and the potential impact of holiday shopping on the bottom line for businesses. They also shared whether the economic concerns of the presidential election will be reflected in holiday shopping patterns.
