Emory University’s School of Medicine has a new dean: Dr. Sandra L. Wong.

Wong, a surgical oncologist and researcher, succeeds interim dean Carlos del Rio, is also taking over as the chief academic officer for Emory Healthcare.

She is the first woman to lead the institution in its 108-year history; throughout her career history, she has saved lives, mentored generations of doctors and worked to eliminate health disparities.

Wong joined WABE’s “Morning Edition” to discuss her vision for leading one of the nation’s top med schools in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
