Ethics Complaint Filed Against DeKalb Commissioner Rader

Five of the six sitting DeKalb County Commissioners are now facing ethics complaints.Broadcast Version

The latest complaint, filed against Commissioner Jeff Rader, alleges he used his position on the commission to steer contracts to his former employer, Jacobs Engineering.

However, Rader says he got an advisory opinion from the county ethics board back in 2007 solely because his former firm does business with the county. “And I’ve used that advisory opinion to guide my conduct since then,” Rader told WABE. “So I believe my conduct has been consistent with that advisory opinion and therefore will serve as a defense against the complaint.”

DeKalb County resident Timothy Brantley filed the ethics complaint. Brantley declined an interview but told WABE he is aware of that advisory opinion.

Every commissioner except Kathie Gannon now faces an open complaint before the DeKalb Board of Ethics.
