Fall allergy season arrives early in Atlanta
Local experts say the fall allergy season has arrived early this year. Dr. Stanley Fineman is an allergist with the Atlanta Allergy & Asthma Clinic. He says patients began noticing fall allergy symptoms several weeks earlier than normal.
“In late August we were seeing a very high cedar elm count, and that was a little bit unusual. Now this week, we’re seeing very high ragweed counts. In fact, last week they were in the 80s, which is very high for ragweed.”
Fineman says unusual summer weather patterns are responsible.
“It basically contributed to larger plants that are just producing more pollen. I mean as you drive along the road, I see the ragweed plants along the side of the road frequently, and they are very large.”
Fineman recommends those suffering from fall allergy symptoms get tested, so they can determine exactly what’s triggering those symptoms and learn how to treat them.
