Ferris Wheel Coming to Downtown Atlanta
Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park is about to get another attraction: a 20-story high ferris wheel.
The Atlanta City Council Monday approved the plan, 13-0, with little debate.
Jason Evans is a spokesman for Skyview Atlanta, the company that will install and operate the ferris wheel.
“The Centennial Olympic Park area has all kinds of great attractions already. We’re hoping to piggypack on those and provide people with a thrilling attraction – something that people are going to really enjoy. They’re going to get to see the city from an angle that they’ve never seen before.”
The ferris wheel was most recently in Paris and Florida, but Evans says the plan is to have it to stay in Atlanta permanently. He says it’ll be up and running by mid-June and admission will be about $10.
No city funds will be involved in the project. City Council member Kwanza Hall said it’s a win-win for the area.
“In terms of adding an experience that’s less than $20, it’s really beneficial to downtown and I think it’ll make it easier not just for tourists but regular citizens to go during lunch hour or go right after work, enjoy the park, and take it all in,” said Hall.
Hall says he hopes it becomes a fixture in downtown Atlanta for years to come.
