Thanksgiving is just days away and local leaders, nonprofits, churches and organizations are partnering together to make sure families and individuals in need have food this Thanksgiving holiday.

On Friday’s edition of “Closer Look,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond talked with show host Rose Scott about food insecurity amid the COVID-19 pandemic and three drive-thru food distributions that the county will host on Saturday, Nov. 22, beginning at 10 a.m.

On a first-come, first-served basis, residents will receive one 20-pound box of fruit and vegetables and a ham or turkey.

Distributions will be held at the following locations:

  • Buck Godfrey Stadium, 2817 Clifton Springs Rd., Decatur, GA 30034
  • James R. Hallford Stadium, 3789 Memorial College Ave., Clarkston, GA 30021
  • New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 6400 Woodrow Rd., Stonecrest, GA 30038

In addition to DeKalb County’s food distribution, Atlanta Housing is also hosting a drive-thru food distribution. The 2020 Thanksgiving Drive-Thru Harvest Share will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 12 p.m.-3 p.m.
