Former U.S. Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn discusses Jan. 6 misconceptions
Former U.S. Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn says he’s always believed in service and helping people. It’s something that he learned from his father who served in the U.S. Air Force.
Dunn is one of the many officers who responded to the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. For his work and response on that day, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Citizens Medal.
Dunn is now being honored by the Fulton County Democratic Party with the Saving Democracy Award. While in Atlanta, he joined “Closer Look” on Friday to reflect on his response on Jan. 6, the upcoming election and the current state of democracy.
More than three years after the riot, Dunn said he is still calling for those responsible to be held accountable. Former President Donald Trump has pledged to pardon people who have been convicted for their actions during the Jan. 6 insurrection should he win the 2024 presidential election.
“I wish I wasn’t still talking about it,” he told host Rose Scott. “The reason why I feel that it’s important to continue to talk about it is because they’re talking about it.”
