Fort Mcpherson
In 1835 when it was still a pasture the area – of what today is known as Fort McPherson – was first used as a place for Georgia’s state militia use as a meeting place and drill ground. Today Fort McPherson is home to Forces Command Headquarters, Third U.S. Army, and U.S. Army Reserve Command.
In 2005 the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) recommended to close both Fort McPherson and Fort Gillem. That’s scheduled to happen in 2011.
