Fulton Co. Officials Tout Better Election Preparations

Partisan primary elections are underway in Georgia.

Fulton County officials say they day got off on the right foot, with all polling locations opening on time.

However, they stress, there’s no such thing as a perfect election.

“You have, you know, tens of thousands of voters showing up, so there’s  bound to be issues but the problems in comparison to the number of successes…..You know, if you actually added those up, you know, the problems are few,” says Richard Barron, Fulton County’s director of registration and elections.

Among the complaints made by many voters in 2010 and 2012 elections were long lines and incorrect ballots.

Barron was brought into his position last year and he says changes have been made to help improve the overall voting process.

Among the moves made: more in-person training and the entering of precinct cards much earlier than in prior years.

“You don’t want voters to be disenfranchised, you want to make sure that the customer service is good,” says Barron.

State officials say there was about 20% voter turnout in 2010, and that same amount is expected this Election Day.
