According to the ACLU, as of October 2023, 37% of the Fulton County Jail’s detainees remained behind bars without being indicted. Although the jail’s population has shrunk since then, the ACLU of Georgia has also accused the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office of not adhering to a rule about unindicted individuals detained on felony charges for 45 days.
On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Fallon McClure, deputy director for Policy and Advocacy at ACLU of Georgia, and legal director Cory Isaacson show how a lawsuit settlement with the Fulton County DA’s Office is a step towards addressing the overcrowding at the Rice Street detention center.
