Gas Prices Down Just in Time for Holiday Travel

Gas prices have dropped just in time for the holiday weekend.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) says the average price in Georgia for a gallon of unleaded is $3.37; that’s down seven cents from last week, and it is 12 cents lower than the national average.

According to AAA’s Jessica Brady, there are two major reasons for the drop in gas prices.  “The value of the U.S. dollar is up to its highest value in about three weeks against foreign currencies,” says Brady. And refinery output here in the U.S. is up at about 90% which is the highest level we’ve seen all year. “

Brady says, if the dollar drops, that will likely signal a rise in gas prices.

She says gas prices also dropped this time a year ago.
