Research suggests there are many benefits for students who attend school-related programs outside of the classroom.

For example, students who regularly participate in these programs strengthen their math and reading skills and have greater school attendance and school engagement.

According to data from Afterschool Alliance, afterschool programs often serve as the great equalizer narrowing the achievement gap between high- and low-income students.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Dr. Amber Jarrard Ebert, an assistant professor of science education and the secondary education department chair at Georgia Gwinnett College, talked about launching the Grizzly Academy Dreamers afterschool program on the college’s campus.
