Georgia Lottery Turns 20 Years Old
The Georgia Lottery last week began celebrating its 20th anniversary. Over the weekend, regular players told Aleck Ragsdale why they buy lottery tickets.
At the Chevron on Boulevard at I-20, 39 year old Jarvis Adams is buying a Georgia Lottery ticket.
“Same numbers I use every time. I play 2, 10, 17, 21, 27”
Adams has been buying tickets twice a week for about the past two years.
“I think the most was $3,099 about two years ago. That’s what got me hooked. You know, I may spend $20 a month and I might make $20 or $30 a month. So it’s not benefiting me, it’s not hurting me. I’m just wishing I could hit big.”
39 year old Gary Kelly says he’s been playing the lottery for most of the 20 years that it’s been around. While he admits that he’s lost money, Kelly’s glad Georgia’s lottery funds college scholarships and prekindergarten.
“I like the HOPE program, so I’m putting back into it. I see they’re working for the kids. And the State needs it too.”
Kelly’s biggest win is also in the three thousand dollar range.
