Georgia Power has been working in, and out –of-state to help restore power to hundreds of thousands of people who’ve been without, since damaging storms hit the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions over the weekend. Susan Mittleman reports .
Georgia Power has sent nearly 200 employees, including contractors, to help with storm clean-up efforts in Ohio, Maryland and Virginia.
“They are assisting the home utilities in those areas, assess damage and make repairs, doing anything from replacing fuses and transformers to setting new poles and re-stringing wire. “
Spokesperson John Kraft says Georgia Power is part of Southern Company, a mutual assistance system that includes Alabama, Mississippi and Gulf Power in the Florida Panhandle.
“We’ve sent almost 1000 people from across our system. That’s not just Georgia power but the system as a whole has made resources available.”
