Georgia Receives ‘A’ in Financial Literacy Report
According to the report by the Center for Financial Literacy at Champlain College, Georgia received the grade for several reasons. The report says Georgia includes personal finance topics in its K-12 instructional guidelines, requires local school districts to implement those standards and assesses students on financial literacy. Shaun Owen is Georgia’s social studies program manager for K-12 education.
“I’m elated. We’ve taken financial literacy and economics in general seriously for years, and that’s one of the reasons we make sure to implement it into our Georgia performance standards and we make sure to assess it, so it’s fantastic.”
Georgia was one of only seven states that received an A in the report. 22 others received a D or an F.
