Despite graduating at the top of her class in 2015, Tierra Grant never imagined college as an option.

“I knew that I loved school,” said  Grant. “I loved to learn, so I had to take some time to figure myself out.”

After high school, the Atlanta native traveled and took on odd jobs—eventually enrolling in Georgia State University’s Perimeter College amid the pandemic.

Grant, who was a first-generation college student and online student, will graduate on May 5th from Georgia State University’s Perimeter College.

On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” the 2023 Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship semifinalists talked about her journey overcoming domestic abuse and depression and—and how it led her on a path to pursue a career in psychology.

“I’m so happy to reach this milestone,” said Grant.
