The Georgia Department of reports unemployment rate for March 2014 was 7.0%, its lowest rate since September 2008. It is the ninth month in a row Georgia’s jobless rate has declined.
Most of the new hires last month came in the leisure and hospitality sector. However, the Labor Department says construction is the state’s fastest growing area….with an over-the-year growth rate of 5.2%. According to Department spokesman Sam Hall, “That means that some of the other sectors like retail sales and others like that, that also feed off of the construction industry, are improving as well.”
Despite the improvement, Georgia’s unemployment rate remains 0.3% higher than the national average, which was 6.7% last month.
