Georgians Preparing for Summer Vacations

AAA

Memorial Day is right around the corner and many Georgians are getting ready to head out of town.

Based on interviews with 400 people in the Peach State earlier this year, AAA reports roughly 80-percent of Georgians are taking a summer vacation of at least four days.

Many Georgians are getting ready to take a summer vacation. WABE's John Lorinc has the story.

That includes Delvin Eugene, who is going to California.

It’s the first time in the past three years that he’s been able to afford a vacation.

“Well, I’m fed up at the point.  I need a break and yeah, the timing is just right this year,” he says.

Emily Grace, also from Atlanta is taking a jaunt.  She’s going to Seattle for whale-watching, something she’s been wanting to do for years.

In addition to that, she wants to get to take in the sights and sounds.

“Well, I try to eat all the local foods and go and see the downtown and everything to try to get to know the city a little bit,” says Grace.

However, not everyone can take a trip this summer.

“We usually go off to the Caribbean somewhere, but lately it just hasn’t worked out because the wife switched jobs….busy here…..sometimes it’s hard to get away from it, you know,” says Len Mish of Lawrenceville.

Meanwhile, some others have already gone away this year, like Nicole Cleveland.

She could only afford one vacation in 2013 and decided to visit the Gulf Shores over spring break.

So, how will she cope with staying put until 2014 at the earliest?

“I don’t know, I’m going to have to work to get my mind off it, I guess.”

According to the AAA survey, the beach is the most popular destination for Georgians.
