Georgia’s Jobless Rate Drops to 9.1%

State labor officials say Georgia’s jobless rate has dropped to a three-year low.  Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says the state’s unemployment rate fell to 9.1% in February, down from 9.2% in January.

“The unemployment rate is going down because of job creation,” Butler says, “Even though we have seen more and more people enter the workforce, those people are finding jobs. Which just goes to show the Georgia economy is getting stronger and we are heading in the right direction.”

Butler says more than 15,000 jobs were created in February, allowing many unemployed Georgians to return to work. He also says fewer people in the state were laid off.
