For the third time in as many months, Georgia’s unemployment rate rose.
The Georgia Department of Labor has reported it was 5.3 percent in November, up a tenth of a point from October.
State officials have said the rate is rising because more people are looking to return to the workforce, but haven’t yet found jobs. Those potential employees were not categorized as “unemployed” when they weren’t actively looking for work.
“In those same three months, we’ve seen more than 56,000 people become employed,” said state Labor Commissioner Mark Butler.
Butler said Georgia has gained nearly 99,000 jobs since November 2015.
