August is Black Philanthropy Month. Data suggests Black households give a higher percentage of their wealth to causes and organizations than their white counterparts — totaling $11 billion each year.

But there’s still a giving gap. According to Giving Gap’s 2024 State of Black Nonprofits Report, the top need for Black nonprofits is funding for general operational needs.

On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” we hear from Giving GAP CEO Heather Infantry, Alicia Rivera, the CFO of Feeding Georgia Families and Mallorye Crowell, the founder and president of The Higher Foundation. They talk with host Rose Scott about the importance of Black Philanthropy Month and efforts to reframe how Black nonprofits are viewed. They also shared how Giving GAP is helping their respective organizations and an upcoming event created to spotlight Atlanta nonprofits.
