Rosalyn ‘Roz’ Grimes, who considers herself a lifelong fan of “Good Times,” was around five or six when she first watched the pioneering television show. She says she and her cousin watched it religiously growing up. Her love of the show led her to share her appreciation with actress Bern Nadette Stanis, who played Thelma Evans on the CBS sitcom.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the show, which follows the story of a Black family living in a Chicago housing project. The show, a spinoff of the CBS series “Maude,” explored topics like teen pregnancy, drugs, child abuse and parenting.
On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Grimes and NPR’s TV critic Eric Deggans spoke with show host Rose Scott about the program and its longstanding cultural impact.
