Georgia GOP convention wrap-up: Trump versus Fulton DA, historic indictment, Georgia elections
The national spotlight was once again on Georgia as former president Donald Trump spoke at the packed Georgia Republican convention in Columbus on Saturday.
It was Trump’s first campaign appearance following his historic federal indictment. As anticipated, he unloaded — calling the indictment “a political hit job.”
Trump also brought up Georgia’s role in his 2020 loss, claiming once again that the election was “rigged.” His efforts to allegedly overturn President Joe Biden’s victory are still under investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Willis has hinted that any indictments in that case will likely come in August. Trump called Willis a “lunatic.”
WABE politics reporter Rahul Bali was there for the whole convention, including as delegates picked former state Sen. Josh McKoon as their new GOP chair.
McKoon closely aligns with Trump’s views.
