GOP Divisions & the Obamacare Showdown: A Talk with Pollster and Former Gingrich Aide Matt Towery
On the afternoon of September 24, 2013, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) began a filibuster, in an effort to cut of funding for the Affordable Care Act (often called Obamacare) as a condition for approving Federal spending after October 1st. The House has already passed a bill which raised the possibility of a government shutdown unless Obamacare is defunded. But the GOP does not have the votes in the Senate, and many leading Senate Republicans are not joining Cruz and the House Republicans. For a look at how this might play out, WABE’s Denis O’Hayer spoke with consultant and pollster Matt Towery. The president and CEO of InsiderAdvantage was Newt Gingrich’s campaign chief during Gingrich’s time as House Speaker. That period included a long government shutdown fight with President Bill Clinton.
