Gov. Deal’s State of the State Address: Live Tweeting, Complete Text
Governor Nathan Deal has just finished giving his annual State of the State address. Michelle Wirth was covering the address and tweeted some of the highlights of the speech.
We will have a complete news story about the speech later today, but for now we have posted the prepared text of the Governor’s address along with some of Michelle’s tweets.
WABE’s Denis O’Hayer interviewed the Governor yesterday about what he planned to say today. Deal said that he planned to announce a half-billion dollar increase in the budget for public elementary and high school education. To quote from that story:
Governor Deal said increased state revenues now allow him to start restoring at least some of the estimated $6 billion in austerity cuts made over the last decade to the state’s funding channel to local school districts.
The Democratic response to the Governor’s address, which we will also cover, will be given this afternoon by State Sen. Jason Carter.
