Georgia Governor Nathan Deal this week talked about two controversial issues relating to the death penalty.

WABE’s Denis O’Hayer and Rose Scott discuss remarks made by Deal earlier in the week.

It centers around ongoing legal challenges regarding current death row inmate Warren Lee Hill, Jr.

Hill was sentenced to death for the 1990 murder of his cell mate Joseph Handspike. At that time, he was already serving a life sentence for killing his girlfriend.

Hill’s attorneys’ have long claimed Hill is mentally disabled. He’s been scheduled for execution 4 times.

The latest motion in this case is now before the Georgia State Supreme Court.
