Gwinnett Co. Commissioners Called On to Table Airport Vote
A final vote on whether to privatize Briscoe Field in Gwinnett County is scheduled for today.
Monday afternoon, the company wanting to bring commercial air service to Briscoe Field called on the Gwinnett County Commission to hold off on that vote.
The request comes after Commissioner Shirley Lassiter admitted she accepted bribes, and abruptly resigned.
That’s left the council one person short.
Speaking to media outside a hangar at Briscoe Field Monday, Propeller Investment head Brett Smith said without a full commission, officials should table the vote.
“This process has been going on for the better part of three years, with a non-stop change in elected officials. There is no pressing reason to vote tomorrow.”
Smith also said the fairest way to decide the question of privatization is to put it before voters via referendum.
Meanwhile, Smith tells WABE that Propeller Investments plans to release its 700-page proposal if the measure fails. If it passes, he says he’ll urge the Commission to make the findings public.
