Gwinnett County Library Director Fired
The Executive Director of the Gwinnett County Library has been fired without cause.
Wednesday evening the Library’s Board of Trustees voted 3 to 1 to let Nancy Stanbery-Kellam go. Board of Trustees Chair Dick Goodman says there was no incident that led to her removal. Instead, he says the board let Stanbery-Kellam go because libraries across the country, including Gwinnet’s library branches, are facing significant financial and technological challenges.
“Many are having to redefine what their missions are. We’ve seen budgets of this library and libraries across the country being cut. The board felt we needed new leadership to meet these challenges.”
In January, the Gwinnett County Commission reduced the library’s budget by $1 million dollars. Goodman says next week the board will consider authorizing a nationwide search to replace Stanbery-Kellam. Stanbery-Kellam had served as executive director for six years.
