Gwinnett health officials are now doing tests to determine exactly what kind of virus is affecting the students and some faculty members.
Health department spokesperson Karen Shields says the symptoms are the nasty ones you would expect with gastroenteritis.
Shields says cleaning crews are giving the school a good scrub-down. “Our director of epidemiology has been at the school the past two days working with their staff to ensure that non-porous surfaces are clean. So: chairs, tables, floors,” said Shields. “Of course, the bathrooms are being cleaned. And they’re following the directions that they’ve given them based on guidelines from the CDC and the EPA.”
The health department recommends that households where the virus has hit do the same thing. They recommended the cleaning protocol for the norovirus because it is one of the most resilient bugs that causes gastroenteritis type symptoms.
