Hartsfield-Jackson adds new installation from Atlanta artist T.W. Pilar

The Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is welcoming a new art installation by Atlanta-based artist and designer T.W. Pilar.
Her works are called “Portals,” and they use the materials of nature alongside the refuse of industry, as well as photography and optical illusion, to transport the viewer’s senses and imagination before they embark on their journeys in the sky. Her installation series “Portals” is on view at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport for the next six months, and Pilar recently joined Lois Reitzes on “City Lights” to discuss the upcoming installation and her current art practice.
“I work with industrial byproducts and elements of nature in my artwork in order to represent this new kind of natural that we’re seeing in our current society,” said Pilar. “Hopefully, my works inspire people to navigate environmentalism and the climate crisis in different ways, and all of my exhibitions and installations aim to connect the community in open spaces of conversation on those topics.”
“Portals” will also be featured as part of the inaugural Atlanta Art Fair, and in a group show inspired by Pilar’s philosophy for Atlanta Art Week. The group show is at The Supermarket on Oct. 3 titled “Boundary Lines.” On the same day, The Atlanta Art Fair opens to the public where Pilar will be representing The Millennium Gate Museum in a cultural partner booth to display a large immersive exhibition.
