Two candidates for the vacant Atlanta City Council Post 3 at-large seat are facing off in a Dec. 3 runoff election.

WABE’s “Morning Edition” featured both Eshé Collins and Dr. Nicole Evans Jones. Neither received more than 50% of the vote during record turnout on Election Day, while both were running alongside several other candidates for the post.

Jones, a former Atlanta Public Schools principal endorsed by civil rights icon Andrew Young, took 40% of the vote. Collins, an Atlanta native and the former chair and vice chair of the Atlanta Public Schools Board, took 25% and has been endorsed by the Georgia Working Families Party.

The seat was vacated by Keisha Sean Waites earlier this year so she could run for clerk of Fulton County Superior Court. Whoever wins the seat will only serve the remainder of Waites’ term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2025.

Both women emphasize their strong sense of community that they say has prepared them for the Post 3 seat.
