A new exhibition, “Hear Me Now: The Black Potters of Old Edgefield, South Carolina,” is set to open at the High Museum of Art.
The exhibit features the work of contemporary African American potters sitting in concert with almost sixty different ceramic pieces created in the years before the Civil War by enslaved individuals in Edgefield, South Carolina.
Featured at the exhibition are gigantic pieces by the poet and potter Dave (also known as David Drake), as well as face jugs, utilitarian wares, and other exceptional vessels by unknown enslaved African Americans.
