Huge Upset: Mercer Bears Best Duke Blue Devils
The latest upset in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament has a Georgia connection.
This afternoon Macon’s Mercer University upset perennial powerhouse Duke University: 78-to-71.
More than 300 Mercer students made the trip to Raleigh, NC, for the game.
Sophomore Thomas Hannah is one of the “Mercer Maniacs,” a group of Mercer super-fans. He spoke to WABE just moments after the Bears’ win, telling us, “It’s hard to put into words what feeling we have right now. Just the school spirit, the pride, the excitement: everything is just incredible.”
This is the first March Madness win – ever — for the Mercer men. They will face the University of Tennessee Sunday in the next round of the tournament.
