I-85 and 400 Joined At Last
The commute around North Atlanta is expected to get a little easier in the near future. Flyover ramps have been constructed to connect I-85 and 400 in either direction. Both are expected to open in the next week, but the Georgia Department Of Transportation gave us the opportunity to drive up onto the ramp with them—it was a rare chance to walk around on a piece of Atlanta’s roadway…free of traffic. We met up with DOT project manager Lauren Bartlett and with their Media Coordinator Mark McKinnon on a recent rainy day to talk about the project and to take in a unique view of the city skyline. To begin, we followed Mark and Lauren onto 85 North, making a U-turn the wrong way up the ramp. Please, don’t try this yourself.
The Georgia DOT expects the ramps to be ready for the public in early April.
